Silver Oak (Napa Valley) Vertical – Value Priceless
For those Silver Oak fans, this is a hard to find collectible from winemaker Daniel Baron. Unlike its sister wine from the Napa Valley appellation, the composition of Alexander Valley Silver Oak is 100% cabernet sauvignon.
This vertical includes the following 6 vintages:
- 2000 – Medium ruby-red color and a nose of blackberry jam, rose petals, baking spices and soy sauce. It has a fruity attack, great depth and a long fruity finish. This wine will continue to improve through 2022 given proper cellaring.
- 2001 – Medium ruby-red color and a nose of blackberry jam, violets, chocolate and nutmeg. It has a rich attack, a full mid-palate and an explosion of fruit in the finish. Tannins are still evolving, so this wine will continue to improve through 2026.
- 2002 – Dark garnet color and a nose of blackberry liqueur, violets, rose petals and spice. It is extremely rich and concentrated and has great depth and integration of tannins. This wine will continue to improve through 2028 given proper cellaring.
- 2003 – Dark ruby with a purple to red edge. It has bright aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate, black tea, allspice and ginger. In the mouth, it offers a full-bodied attack, a round, balanced mid-palate redolent of cherry preserves, brown sugar and caramel and an extremely long finish of savory ripe fruit. Properly cellared, it should give drinking pleasure through 2026
- 2004 – Dark ruby color with a deep red edge and displays aromas of fresh blackberries, violets, cola, nutmeg and licorice. In the mouth, the wine has a juicy attack and offers great expression of fruit and spice on the mid-palate. Its fruit-driven finish is long and elegant. Properly cellared, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2023.
- 2005 – Full bodied and yet refined, and consistent in its color, aroma, palate and finish. It has a dark garnet color and a nose of black cherry, clove, cinnamon, lavender and licorice. It is seamless on the palate with a solid core of berry fruit, velvety tannins and excellent length. With proper cellaring it should give drinking pleasure through 2032
